Summer activities wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the fair, and the Big Sky Country State Fair is one you don’t want to miss. Located at Gallatin County Fairgrounds, blocks from downtown Bozeman, you can easily enjoy multiple days of fair activities.
Of course, the kids (and kids at heart) love the carnival and games, but this fair brings activities for all ages and interests. Nationally recognized artists take the stage for live shows each night. Flo Rida, Billy Currington, and Gary Allan are headlining this year.
If you’re a rodeo fan, you’ll want to catch the Roundup Ranch Rodeo, which is different from the independent events you see at regular rodeos. These competitions are team-based and include authentic ranch activities such as wild cow milking, team sorting, ranch bronc riding, team doctoring and trailer loading, the Hide Race, and team branding. Sunday is the Barnyard Brawl, a rodeo competition for kids, including mutton busting, a calf scramble, and the chicken chase. (In other words, a lot of laughs!)
4-H animals will be displayed in the livestock barn, and you can view projects in Open Class Competitions in art, culinary, quilting, and photography. New this year is the Barnyard, which will include a petting zoo, animal races, and agricultural education exhibits.
For those who love the thrill of motorsports, the outdoor Arenacross Nationals Tour is coming with competitions for both professionals and amateurs. You can also watch drivers play in The Mud Bog, Hill ‘N Hole, and a Monster Truck Show!
And we would be remiss if we didn’t talk about the food. There’s a long list of vendors planned, both new and returning. Popular food items include tri-tip sandwiches, chicken skewers, shaved ice, pulled pork, funnel cakes, kettle corn, and gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches! It will take multiple days just to eat through all the goodness!
Plus, it’s a great time to gather with friends and family to enjoy this time-honored summer entertainment. Check out the Big Sky Country State Fair website for ticket and event information!
