Big Sky, Montana, a haven for adventure seekers, offers a plethora of outdoor activities. Nestled amidst the Spanish Peaks, Madison Range, and Gallatin Range, the hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking trails are a thrill-seeker’s dream. Situated 50 miles from Bozeman and 51 miles from West Yellowstone, it’s an easy drive from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport and a lovely place to stay while exploring Yellowstone National Park. Big Sky’s temperatures are milder, ranging from 60-80 degrees during the day to 40 degrees at night.

Big Sky Resort, a haven for families, offers a host of activities. This winter, the new tram started running, and for the first time, visitors can ride the lifts and the tram to the top of Lone Peak, year-round. The glass-bottomed cars give you a front-row seat to the steep vertical you gain. Once you arrive at the 11,166-foot summit, you’ll be treated to a stunning view of Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, including Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Mountain bikers of all ages will love their lift-served downhill trails (and if you’re new to the sport, they offer lessons and all the gear.)

Golfers love the 18-hole, par 72, Arnold Palmer-designed golf course. The public course sits at 6,300′ above sea level, with a stunning view of Lone Peak and the West Fork of the Gallatin River running alongside.

There are three ziplining adventures: one in Gallatin Canyon, which crosses the Gallatin River, one amid Gallatin National Forest, and the other at the base of Lone Mountain. All three offer thrilling experiences; one even has a Junior Ranger Course for those starting as early as age 4!

Entertainment abounds during the summer months. Music in the Mountains, a family-friendly-free concert series every Thursday at 6:30 pm from June 20 to Sept. 12 at Center Stage in Town Center Park. In addition to regional headliners, this year’s opening bands feature up-and-coming local talent, and rotating food and beverage trucks provide delicious dinner options. The weekly Big Sky Farmer’s Market occurs every Wednesday from 5 -8 pm, June 5- Sept. 25. Over 80 vendors provide local foods, arts and crafts, demonstrations, and kid’s activities weekly.

Wildland’s Festival, a charity concert event, raised over $500,000 in 2023 for river conservation. This year’s lineup, on August 2-3, includes names like Maren Morris and Lukas Nelson, and beneficiaries are Gallatin Valley Land Trust, Greater Yellowstone Coalition, and Wild Montana.
